What is Splash Fish?

Splash Fish is a free one-tap arcade game you can play right in your browser — no download, no sign-up. You guide a little flying fish over the ocean, weaving through obstacles for as long as you can. Each obstacle you pass earns one point.

It is easy to learn and hard to master: a run can end in three seconds, and the "one more try" loop is the whole point. The game works on phones, tablets, and desktops.

How to Play

  1. Tap the screen (or press Space / Up Arrow on a keyboard) to make the fish leap upward.
  2. Gravity constantly pulls the fish down — keep tapping to stay airborne.
  3. Fly through the gaps between obstacles. Passing one scores 1 point.
  4. Touching an obstacle or falling into the sea ends the run. Tap to retry instantly.

Four kinds of obstacles stand in your way: pink coral, swaying kelp, jagged rock pillars, and columns of bubbles. They all behave the same — only the gap matters — but the kelp and bubbles move as they sway, which can play tricks on your eyes.

The Salmon Sushi Power-Up

Every so often, a piece of glowing salmon nigiri appears between obstacles. It is deliberately placed off the safe route — above or below the comfortable path — so grabbing it is always a risk-versus-reward decision.

Eat the sushi and your fish becomes invincible for about 6 seconds. While powered up you can:

  • Smash straight through obstacles — each one you break awards a bonus point.
  • Bounce off the sea surface instead of drowning.

A gauge at the top of the screen shows how much invincibility time is left. When it runs out, you are mortal again — mind the timing.

Tips for a High Score

  • Small, frequent taps beat big panicked ones. The fish is easier to control near the middle of its arc.
  • Aim for the center of each gap. The margin above and below is what saves you when a kelp frond sways into view.
  • Do the sushi math. Early in a run, dive for it — an invincibility spree can bank quick bonus points. Deep into a personal-best run, sometimes the smart play is to let it go.
  • Use the invincibility to reposition. Smashing through obstacles lets you fly level for a moment and reset your rhythm.
  • Your best score is saved on your device — and now there's a worldwide ranking too, so yesterday's you isn't the only opponent anymore.

The Online Ranking

Splash Fish has a worldwide leaderboard shared by every player. Score at least one point, and when your run ends you can enter a nickname (up to 8 characters) to register your score. Registering is optional — skip it and nothing is sent.

  • The top 5 appear right on the game-over screen.
  • Tap the 🏆 button in the top-right corner to browse the top 100 in a scrollable list — your own name is highlighted.
  • The board shows each nickname's personal best, so beating your own record is the way to climb.

There are no accounts or sign-ups; a nickname is just a label, like the initials on an arcade cabinet. See the privacy policy for how ranking data is handled.

Behind the Game

Splash Fish is a hobby project, hand-built with plain JavaScript and the HTML5 canvas — no game engine, no frameworks. Everything you see, from the pixel-art title to the sushi, is drawn in code. The online leaderboard runs on a small serverless backend that stores nothing but nicknames and scores.

The game is under active development. Planned features include a rewarded-ad system for extra plays and home-screen app support — see the updates page for what's new and what's next.
